FASHION AND THE BRAND

FACADE (THE SHAPES OF FREEDOM)
Should we hold on to that which is falling away or let it go and expose what is underneath? Our mask is a defense mechanism to help us get through our day and situations we experience. Maybe our mask is hiding our depression, our anxiety, or our fear. It may even hide our happiness or our excitement. One common reason is so that they can present themselves to the world in a way that they believe is a better, more 'acceptable' version of their real selves. Another, is that they may construct a facade to protect themselves from being judged or hurt by other people. Different circumstances and relationships require different roles, but problems may potentially arise when we forget we’re playing a role. Let our mask slip and become our real selves. Casting aside our self-critic, we can allow ourselves to truly shine through. I actually admire these people who dress however whatever they want. The emphasis that the goal is to blend in and be like everyone else is difficult for me as someone who values uniqueness, individual expression, and artistry as part of the individual. I think that's really sad how society's expectations and hostility towards anything different keeps people from expressing themselves freely. Negative impacts of social media has been a source of discouragement for many, causing people to retreat online and continue their passion under the veil of anonymity. It's not easy to dress purely for ourselves when we live in a world that evolves around a particular society that rather forces us to blend in.

With my concept, I want to create fearlessly destructive challenges, to destroy the mask you have been living underneath. Encourage everybody to be brave enough to be their true selves and give people the freedom of expression. Go by your instincts and ideas and feel comfortable with it. Fearless fashion, a celebration of who you are. It is a reminder to let go of the rules and just wear what makes you feel good. It isn’t an elaborate costume or even something to hide behind it’s just an outer expression of something inside that’s just waiting to get out. Wear whatever you want, because at the end of the day what you feel is what matters not them.

Defining myself as a designer by choosing a series of fashion brands which define a specific segment. A logical combination of multiple brands with a relatable signature that share a certain target group. I developed a personal signature that lifts the segment to new heights for a collection autumn/winter 2022.
